Corydon man missing after fishing accident
(Updated 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008.) Indiana Conservation Officers are searching the Ohio River for a Corydon man who has been missing since this morning following a boating accident near Cannelton.
Bart Zimmerman was fishing from a small boat with another man near the Cannelton Locks and Dam when the accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. (fast time).
Officials said anglers in two boats were fishing below the dam when a third boat passed between them and became caught up in the roiling water that passes through the dam’s gates.
The boat capsized, sending its occupants into the river. The fisherman from one boat attempted to help the victims who were capsized, but their boat also overturned.
Two other Harrison County men were pulled from the water and were transported to area hospitals, according to Conservation Officer Mac Spainhour.
A fourth fisherman is also missing.
Zimmerman, along with his brother, Kerry, own and operate Zimmerman Art Glass in Corydon.
Officials have not indicated who was in each boat. More details will follow as they become available.
