Josephine A. Wyman

Josephine A. Wyman, 90, Columbus, formerly of Marengo, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1917, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Omer and Mayme Martin. She and her husband, the late Bill Wyman, ran Wyman’s Store for 37 years and she also worked part time at the Marengo Post Office and Crawford County License Branch. In 1974, she was appointed Hoosier Girls State director, serving 15 years as director with a total of 26 years assisting the Girls State program. She was a Girl Scout leader, served as district president of the Federated Clubs, president of the Crawford County Republican party, and was a member of the Marengo Three Arts Club, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron and other offices, Crawford County American Legion Auxiliary, serving in many offices at the unit, district, state and national levels, the Crawford County Genealogical and Historical Society, Friends of the Library of Crawford County, Columbus Senior Citizens and Hillview Christian Church in Marengo. She received awards for her volunteer work, including two Sagamores of the Wabash and Kentucky Colonel.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald W. Martin; a brother, William K. Martin; and a grandson, Tom Omer Wyman.
Survivors include a son, Tommy Martin Wyman of Marengo; a daughter, Jane A. Bowman of Edinburgh; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Hillview Christian Church with burial in Martinsburg Cemetery.
