Local student qualifies for rodeo competition

Julia Hamby, an eighth-grade student at North Harrison Middle School, has earned a position on the Indiana Wrangler Junior High rodeo team.
She will travel with fellow teammates to Gallup, N.M., from June 30 through July 5 to compete at the fourth annual Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo in the break-away calf roping, ribbon roping and pole bending.
Featuring more than 1,000 contestants from 47 states, Canadian provinces and Australia, the Wrangler Finals are the world’s largest junior high rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $75,000 in prizes, contestants will also vie for more than $50,000 in college scholarships.
Saturday’s championship performance will be televised nationally as part of the ’20X Rodeo High’ telecast series. The event is scheduled to air on RFD-TV later this year.
