Lt. Col. Roy Lee Bigler
Lt. Col. Roy Lee Bigler, 76, Laconia, N.H., died Monday, March 24, 2008, after a short bout with cancer.
Born in New Salisbury, he was the son of the late Clarence and Laura Jackson Bigler.
He completed his aviation cadet training in San Antonio in 1952, taught navigation until 1956 at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas, completed pilot training in 1957 and graduated from squadron officer school in 1959. He flew B-47s and B-52s and logged more than 7,000 flight hours. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business in 1966 from the University of Omaha and, after retiring in 1972 from the Air Force, he moved to Kensington, where he was involved in the restoration of colonial houses and real estate.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Bigler.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Joan L. McCarty; a son, Mark D. Bigler of Laconia; a daughter, Lori A. Nava of San Diego; two brothers, Wilbur Bigler of New Albany and Chester Bigler of Plymouth; a sister, Helen Rainbolt of Clarksville; and six grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home in Laconia is handling arrangements.
