Colonel N. Sarles, 97, Fort Wayne, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at his home.
Born in English, he was a 1930 graduate of the old English High School and a 1941 graduate of Purdue University; was a pharmacist with Hooks Drug, Meijer and Irene Byron Health Care for a total of 37 years before retiring in 1978; and was a member of Masonic Lodge 342, 32 Degree, F&AM, Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Nellie M. Sarles, in 1999; two brothers, Kanneth and Dencil Sarles; and two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Velma Sarles.
Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Simerman, Carol Sandel, Mary R. Sarles and Diane Drennon, all of Fort Wayne, Cherie Sandel of Zanesville and Eva Cook of The Woodlands, Texas; a sister, Ermil F. Shireman of New Albany; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, March 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home in Fort Wayne.
Prayer service: Monday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral: Tuesday, March 25, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
Officiant: Karen Kosberg.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Parkview Hospice, Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the Mount Sterling Cemetery Trust Fund in English.
