Alois W. Best

Alois (Al) William Best, 93, Floyds Knobs, died Saturday, March 22, 2008.
Born Sept. 16, 1914, in Floyds Knobs, he was the son of the late William Jacob Best and Florence Scott Best.
He attended the old Mooresville School, was a graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville and the New Albany Business College, served as a Lafayette Township trustee and the first president of the Floyds Knobs Volunteer Fire Dept. board and the Floyds Knobs Water Co., was a farmer, school bus driver, musician orchestra leader, a thoroughbred horse trainer and owner, and a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Alice Neely; a son, Damon Alois Best; and a sister, Evelyn L. Best.
Survivors include a son, David L. Best of Floyds Knobs; a daughter, Mary Ann Duffy of Floyds Knobs; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 26, from noon to 8 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany.
Mass of Christian burial: Thursday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church followed by burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the St. Mary of the Knobs cemetery fund or Lafayette Township Volunteer Fire Dept.
