Hazel Byrne
Hazel Rusk Byrne, 95, New Albany, died Sunday morning, March 16, 2008, at the home of her daughter.
Born Dec. 29, 1912, in New Albany, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Devenish Rusk.
She was a graduate of the old Georgetown High School, where she played basketball for four years, was a telephone operator for the Georgetown Phone Co., was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in New Albany and taught Sunday school for 75 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Byrne; a grandson, Jeff Byrne; and six brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son, Dan Byrne of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters, Marilyn Lone of New Albany and Linda Parks of Fort Pierce, Fla.; 10 Grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, March 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, March 18, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.
Funeral: Tuesday, March 18, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Wolfe Cemetery.
Officiant: Pastor Gary Cooper.
Pallbearers: Jack Davis, Dallas Wade, Keith Highfill, Donald Jones, Mike Wetzel and Kenny Byrne.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Main Street United Methodist Church.
