Thelma Balmer Sgouros, 84, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.
Born Sept. 21, 1923, in Crawford County, she was the daughter of the late Chris and Stella Walts Balmer.
She was a retired deputy courtroom clerk in the California Court Clerks Association in Downey, Calif., and worked with the Army Engineers in Washington, D.C. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Corydon.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Sgouros; a son, Chris Dennison; a sister, Louise Sheppard; and a brother, Joe Balmer.
Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Fetz of Milltown, Dorothy Kiley of Vista, Calif., and Marie Johnson of Louisville; and an adopted granddaughter.
Visitation: Thursday, Feb. 28, from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 29, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral Mass: Friday, Feb. 29, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon followed by burial in Pilot Knob Cemetery near Marengo.
Celebrant: Father Henry Tulley.
