Robert M. Bennett, 76, Laconia, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
Born Jan. 14, 1932, in Harrison County, he was the son of the late Lee W. and Rosa M. Nation Bennett.
He was a former production and maintenance employee at the old United Catalyst in Louisville, a former reserve officer for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept., a 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, and a member of F&AM Pisgah Masonic Lodge 32 in Corydon, Order of the Eastern Star 467 in Corydon, the Royal Arch York Rite Corydon Chapter 156, the Corydon Council of Cryptic Masons 112, the New Albany Commandry Knights Templar 5 and Smith Campground United Methodist Church in Laconia.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ruby Steepleton of Corydon; two sons, Gregory A. Bennett of Laconia and Clyde Eckart Jr. of Corydon; three daughters, Victoria Hinrichs of Greenville, Karen Haney of Malabar, Fla., and Barbara Melton of Corydon; a sister, Betty Welch of Corydon; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, Feb. 21, from 1 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 22, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Masonic service: Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 at the funeral home.
Funeral: Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in Smith Campground Cemetery.
Officiant: The Rev. Gilbert Duley.
Pallbearers: Nick and Robb Smith, Justin Hinrichs, Jerry Amy, Ronnie Longacre and Larry Bennett.
