Ettinger racks up points at swimming sectional

Corydon Central sophomore Sean Ettinger had a solid showing Saturday at the Floyd Central boys’ swimming and diving sectionals.
Ettinger placed in two events as an individual and was a part of two relay teams that scored points for the Panthers.
His success kicked off in the 50-yard freestyle. In the A-Final, Ettinger placed sixth with a time of 24.14 seconds. Seymour’s Jacob Hill won the event in a blazing 22.29 seconds. Fellow Corydon Central swimmer Chad Salomon placed seventh with a time of 24.23 seconds, winning the B-final. The senior edged out North Harrison’s Ryan Dust, who took eighth with a time of 24.27.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Ettinger took a second-place finish in the B-final, good for eighth place overall. Ettinger swam the ‘fly in 1:05.82. Seymour’s Chastain Kameron placed first with a time of 53.55 seconds.
Corydon Central’s most impressive team performance came in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of seniors Nate Cecil, Tyler Jensen and Salomon joined Ettinger to shave four seconds off their preliminary time. The finals time of 1:37.80 was good for third place, behind Seymour (1:30.9) and Jeffersonville (1:34.7). North Harrison’s team of Gabe Robertson, Christian Horstman, Tony Powell and Dust won the B-Final (1:45.21) for a seventh-place finish overall.
The same Corydon Central team took seventh place in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:48.72. Floyd Central won the relay with a time of 3:25.35.
North Harrison’s Dust also had an impressive go in the 100-yard backstroke. The senior closed out his prep career with a seventh-place finish overall when he won the B-final with a time of 1:03.18. Floyd Central freshman Drew Cato won in 53.42 seconds.
The first-place finisher in each event advances to the state finals, scheduled for this weekend.
Floyd Central won the overall team title by one point, 290-289, over Seymour. Corydon Central placed sixth (65 points) and North Harrison 10th (39 points) in the 14-team sectional.
