HCCF provides aid for Norstam workers
The Harrison County Community Foundation is accepting donations, both monetary as well as canned goods only, to assist Norstam Veneers Inc. employees while the company gets back on its feet following a fire Saturday night that destroyed much of the plant near Mauckport.
‘We will be working closely with Harrison County Community Services,’ said HCCF executive director Steve Gilliland.
He emphasized that canned goods only will be collected for the 115 Norstam employees.
‘This will help them out with their groceries,’ Gilliland said.
The canned food drive is being held so as not to deplete Community Service’s food pantry, he added.
Harrison County Community Services will help the employees out with other expenses they may have.
‘We can … provide vouchers to offset other costs and steer them to other services,’ said Shirley Raymond, director of Community Services.
The Foundation will also accept monetary donations for the employees.
‘The donations from the public will defray these costs and extend our limited resources,’ Raymond said.
Checks should be made payable to Harrison County Community Foundation, write ‘Norstam’ in the memo line, and mail to P.O. Box 279, Corydon, IN 47112.
Canned goods, as well as monetary donations, can only be delivered to the Foundation office, located at 1523 Foundation Way in Corydon, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. No after-hours drop-off is available.
Gilliland said he didn’t know how long they will accept donations.
‘It depends on how long they are out of work,’ he said. ‘Our focus is on trying to take care of the employees.’
Foundation president Brian Churchill said, ‘The Foundation board of directors wants to assure Norstam employees they aren’t alone in this. We want to help activate the caring neighbors in our area.’
