Parade, other Halloween activities set for Saturday in Corydon

Corydon’s annual Halloween Parade, one of the oldest Halloween parades in the country, will be Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The parade, the 73rd annual, will start at the Harrison County Fairgrounds in the south part of town then proceed north on Capitol Avenue to Walnut Street. From there, parade participants will head west to Water Street, turn south and go back to the fairgrounds.
Persons interested in entering the parade need to be at the fairgrounds between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Floats and entries will be judged at 6 p.m. No pre-registration is necessary, organizers said.
Categories for the parade to be judged include best walking groups, best float, favorite antique car plaque, favorite animal unit plaque and favorite performing unit plaque.
The day will include many other activities, as well, including a costume contest beginning at 4 p.m. at the Hurley D. Conrad Memorial Bandstand on the town square. Children of all ages are encouraged to participate, and eight age groups will be judged: infant to 18 months; 18 months to 3 years; 3 to 4 years; kindergarten to first grade; second and third grade; fourth, fifth and sixth grade; junior high and high school; and adults.
The Old Capitol Business Association is also working to offer trick-or-treating around the square following the parade. Member businesses will be marked with signs, booths and directions.
A Halloween poster contest is also being sponsored by OCBA, and the entries will be displayed in the windows of the businesses downtown.
The parade is a cooperative effort by the Friends of Corydon Capitol, Main Street Corydon Inc., Old Capitol Business Association, Town of Corydon, and the Harrison County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
