Public asked for input on lighting ordinance
The Harrison County Advisory Plan Commission will hold a public hearing tomorrow night (Thursday) on a proposed lighting ordinance.
The meeting will begin at 6:30, an hour earlier than the plan commission’s normal start time, in the Commissioners Room of the Harrison County Court House.
A copy of the 6-1/2-page draft of the outdoor lighting ordinance is available for viewing at the Harrison County Planning and Zoning Office, 124 S. Mulberry St. in Corydon.
County planner Eric Wise said the draft is ‘basically a scaled-down version’ of an original draft the plan commission considered.
J.R. Eckart, a county commissioner who serves on the plan commission, said there is a definite need for a lighting ordinance, but the county also should ensure it’s not carried too far.
Under the proposed draft, seasonal lighting is exempt. New commercial developments or renovations would be required to submit a lighting plan.
