Tennis pairings announced; Eagles top Corydon
Sectional pairings were released Tuesday for the boys’ tennis tournament which begins Thursday.
In the New Albany Sectional, Lanesville drew the host school and defending sectional champion New Albany in the opening round.
Opposite of the New Albany-Lanesville match, Corydon Central will square off against South Central. Corydon Central has won five sectionals in school history, the last coming in 2000. Meanwhile the Rebels are still seeking their first sectional crown in boys’ tennis.
Both opening round matches will begin at 4 p.m. at New Albany High School tomorrow (Thursday). The sectional championship game will be played Friday at 4 p.m.
North Harrison is scheduled to play in the Floyd Central Sectional, which begins Thursday. Pairings and times were not available at press time.
Included in the sectional are Crawford County, Eastern (Pekin), Salem and Floyd Central.
Lanesville 4, Corydon Central 1
In tennis action Monday, Lanesville defeated visiting Corydon Central 4-1. In No. 1 singles, Nathan Bleecker (Lanesville) defeated Jacob Schneider handily 6-1, 6-1.
In other singles action, Lanesville’s Jeffrey Hammond cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Panthers netter Bryan Baker. Chad Conrad picked up Corydon Central’s lone win in No. 3 singles. He rallied from a one set deficit to knock off Nick Hammond 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The Eagles were dominate on the doubles side. The duo of Collin McCulloch and Cody Hussung defeated Ryan Burton and Doug Pope 6-2, 6-1. Also for Lanesville, Cameron Teeter and Chris Ehalt combined to beat Adam Bichir and Chris Day 6-2, 6-0.
