Floyds Knobs man dies in motorcycle crash

A Floyds Knobs man died Sunday afternoon after crashing his motorcycle.
Christopher Anthony (Chris) Johnson, 26 was traveling west on S.R. 62 when his motorcycle went off the south side of the road and crashed into a wooded area about 2:40 p.m.
Officer Kevin Taylor of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept. said Johnson’s motorcycle traveled about 168 feet off the road before coming to a stop in the woods near the entrance to the Stage Stop Campground west of S.R. 462.
‘Speed appears to be a factor,’ Taylor said.
Malcolm McMakin, chief deputy coroner of Harrison County, said Johnson, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene from blunt force trauma. Toxicology tests are pending, he said.
Johnson was traveling with five other motorcyclists who missed him farther down the road. When they turned around to search for him, they noticed a freshly broken tree. They found Johnson in the woods nearby.
A 1999 graduate of Floyd Central High School, Johnson was an employee of Steel Dynamics Inc. in Jeffersonville and a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.
Survivors include his parents, Anthony and JoAnn Johnson of Floyds Knobs; a sister, Kimberly Ann Johnson of Floyds Knobs; and his grandparents, Leonard Johnson and Mary Catherine Weber, both of Louisville.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 2 to 8 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany.
The funeral Mass will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church followed by interment in St. Mary of the Knobs Church Cemetery.
