John J. Arnold Jr., 81, Elizabeth, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at Hospice of Louisville.
Born May 26, 1926, in Louisville, he was the son of John J. and Emily Manning Arnold.
He was a retired equipment operator for CSX Railroad, a farmer, a World War II veteran of the Marine Corps, and a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth, VFW 3281 in New Albany, American Legion Hornickel Post in Elizabeth and Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tempie Long Arnold; two sons, John and Mark Arnold; and a brother, Don Arnold.
Survivors include four daughters, Stephanie Faith of Laconia, Pam Wall of Indianapolis, and Melissa Steele and Cynthia Donat, both of Louisville; a brother, Gilbert Arnold of Louisville; two sisters, Mary Stark of Louisville and Evelyn Regan of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, Aug. 2, from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 4, after 8 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Rosary service: Friday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral: Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth with burial in the church cemetery.
Military honors: Performed at the grave site.
Officiant: Father Dan Atkins.
Pallbearers: Michael Miller, Derrick Arnold, Bradley Knear, Pat Regan, Gilbert Arnold and Greg Irwin.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Peter’s Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
