James W. Whitaker Jr.

James W. (Jimmy) Whitaker Jr., 77, formerly of Greenville, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
Born Oct. 22, 1929, he was the son of the late James W. Sr. and Mary Russell Whitaker.
He was retired from the Navy and worked many years at the old Naval Ordnance in Louisville. He was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and the VFW, both in Brandenburg, and a former member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lenore Risen.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Shirley Alvey; a daughter, Marilyn A. Crumbo of Martinsburg; two sons, James W. (Jim) Whitaker III of Floyds Knobs and J. Russell (Russ) Whitaker of Greenville; a sister, Betty Lanham of Louisville; two brothers, Eddie Whitaker of Clinton and Tommy Whitaker of Louisville; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Sunday, July 29, from noon to 8 p.m. at Generations Funeral Home in New Albany.
Funeral Mass: Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Bradford with burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Kosair Charities.
