Dr. Lon L. Rooksby

Dr. Lon L. Rooksby, D.D.S., 71, Westville, died Friday, July 6, 2007.
Born in New Albany, he was the son of the late Gael and Mary Stevens Rooksby, formerly of Laconia.
He attended Indiana University School of Dentistry and graduated in 1959. He served as a commissioned officer dentist in the Navy and then owned Portage Dental Clinic. He was active with the Porter County Dental Society, past president of the Northwest Indiana Dental Association, member and trustee of the Indiana Dental Association, and member of the American Dental Association Council for Federal Dental Services. He was selected as the 1984-1985 Honor Dentist of Northwest Indiana and recognized with the distinguished service award from the American Society Dentistry for Children. He also was a member of Portage Rotary Club, Dunes Masonic Lodge 741, Scottish Rite of South Bend and Orak Shrine in Michigan City, and a former member and past president of the Portage Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Jo Rooksby; two sons, Donald Walker of North Smithfield, R.I., and Matthew Rooksby of Spencer; four daughters, Renee Bounds of Mississippi, Robin Cahillane of Westville, Pam Chappo of Greenfield and Tracy Gelsosomo of Hobart; a brother, Robert Rooksby of Carmel; two sisters, Jane Mynett of Muncie and Sharon Gentle of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home in Portage.
Masonic service: Tuesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral: Wednesday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with cremation to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Shriners Hospital for Children.
