Martha Schmitt, 80, New Albany, died Monday morning, June 11, 2007, at her home.
Born Sept. 4, 1926, in Navilleton, she was the daughter of the late August and Lula Ellenbrand Diezeman.
She was retired from Ameritech Telephone Co., and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Marian Guild, the Legion of Mary, Telephone Pioneers of America and VFW Auxiliary Post 1693.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; two brothers, Fathers Albert and Andrew Diezeman; and a sister, Beatrice Fessel.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Martin of Ramsey; five sons, Anthony, Albert and Andrew Schmitt, all of New Albany, Dwight Schmitt of Salem and Bret Schmitt of Terre Haute; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, June 14, after 8 a.m. at Generations Funeral Home in New Albany.
Rosary service: Wednesday, June 13, at 6.
Funeral Mass: Thursday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church followed by burial in St. Mary’s Navilleton Catholic Cemetery in Floyds Knobs.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Holy Family Catholic Church or Hospice and Palliative Care of Southern Indiana.
