Kennel Club returns for 8th annual dog show in Corydon

Southern Indiana Kennel Club (SIKC) will host its eighth annual American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned all-breed dog shows on Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3, at the Harrison County Fairgrounds in Corydon.
These shows offer competition in conformation, obedience and rally obedience classes. There are normally more than 900 entries in conformation and obedience.
Dogs competing in conformation will be evaluated on their conformance to AKC breed standards, while those competing in obedience and rally will be judged on their ability to perform a series of voice and/or hand commands.
The Derby City Agility Association will host agility trials in conjunction with the SIKC shows. Last year, there were more than 450 agility entries each day.
Agility dogs will be required to master an obstacle course that contains such items as weave poles, jumps, dog walks and tunnels. The total entry represents nearly every AKC recognized breed, with many of the top dogs of the region in competition.
Conformation and obedience judging will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. The conformation and obedience judging will take place in the buildings on the fairgrounds, while the agility trials will be in the south end of the infield. Group judging will begin about 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday, followed by Best in Show.
On Friday afternoon, June 1, there is a specialty club show held by the Kentuckiana Basset Hound Club.
The public is invited to watch the judging as well as shop for dog-related items at the vendors on site.
‘This is an excellent chance to meet breeders of your favorite breed of dog, and learn more about the breed if contemplating the addition of a new pet,’ said Archie Kintner Jr., show chairman.
There is no charge for parking or admission.
Scheduled judging times will be available online at Click on ‘show information,’ then ‘closed shows,’ then ‘Southern Indiana Kennel Club.’ There are individual tabs for both Saturday and Sunday.
