Lady Eagles draw SC in sectional
Sectional pairings for the 23rd annual IHSAA softball state tournament took place last Wednesday.
A pair of area teams will square off in the first round.
In the Class A Lanesville sectional, the host Lady Eagles are looking to win their fourth consecutive sectional crown. To do so, head coach Kayla Straub’s team will have to battle their county rival to the south, South Central, on May 21 at 7 p.m.
The two met early in the season, during the cold stretch of April. Lanesville won that battle in a close, 4-2 ball game.
The Lanesville-South Central winner will advance to play the winner of Henryville vs. New Washington (May 21 at 5 p.m.) in the sectional championship.
Last season, Lanesville defeated Henryville 6-3 in the finals. The sectional title game will be Wednesday, May 23, at 5 p.m. The sectional champ advances to the Hauser Regional in Hope.
In Class 3A, North Harrison will have to take the long route to win a sectional crown. North drew Scottsburg in the opening round of the Class 3A Corydon Central Sectional and take to the field May 21 at 4:30 p.m.
If North Harrison advances to the semi-final, they will play the Madison/Salem winner on Tuesday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m.
A young Corydon Central team drew a free pass into the semi-finals. They will play Silver Creek on Tuesday, May 22, at 4:30 p.m. in a battle to reach the championship game. Defending sectional champion Madison defeated Corydon Central last season 6-0 in the title game.
The 3A championship game will be Wednesday, May 23, at 5:30 p.m.
‘I can’t like the draw enough,’ said Corydon Central coach Kim Briscoe. ‘We got a nice draw and we’re at home, you have to like that.’
The winner of the Class 3A Corydon Central Sectional advances to the Boonville Regional.
