Corydon Central made the most of hosting the Girls’ Sectional track and field meet Tuesday, sending two relay teams and five individuals to next week’s regional meet.
Sophomore Meghan Bussabarger qualified for three events. She won the 100-meter hurdles (16.01 seconds) and the high jump (5-02) and placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (51.8).
Corydon Central’s Claire Hardsaw is clearly the area’s best in the pole vault. The junior broke the school and sectional record, clearing 10-00. Her teammate Kelly Eberly placed second in the pole vault (8-06), also qualifying for regionals.
Also placing first for Corydon was junior Gretchen Zimmerman in the long jump. Her best leap was measured at 15-10.
As a team, Corydon placed third in the 400-meter relay (54.7) and the 1600-meter relay (10:58.6), putting both teams in the regional.
Other individuals qualifying for regionals were Katie Burks (Corydon) in the 1600-meter run (4th, 5:49.8); Ramona Taylor (North Harrison) in the high jump (2nd, 5-01); Abbey Day (South Central) in the shot put (2nd, 32-08), Brittney Gayhart (Lanesville) in the discus throw (3rd, 88-01) and Laurinda Cockerham (North Harrison) in the discus throw (4th, 87-10).
The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Bedford North Lawrence Regional. The meet will begin Tuesday, May 22, at 5:45 p.m.
