Bruce’s 76 tops at Corydon Invitational

North Harrison sophomore Matt Bruce has been on a tear this spring. The Cougar golfer took to the Old Capital Golf Course strong on a sunny Saturday afternoon, taking individual honors at the Corydon Central Invitational, shooting a four-over-par 76.
Overall as a team, North Harrison was unable to defend the invitational title, placing sixth out of 12 teams. Taking the top overall team honors was Providence with a 324, and Silver Creek finished second with a 334.
Host Corydon Central finished just four strokes back from their rivals North Harrison, carding a 358 team score.
Going along with Bruce’s 76, other Cougars recording rounds were Ryan Boone with an 81, Dylan Spencer (82), Cody Stroud (115) and Cody Woolston (121).
For Corydon Central, Matt Key had a solid day playing in the three-some with Bruce. Key carded an 83 on the par-72 course. Other Corydon scores included Cody Warmoth (85), Brian Baker (93), Mike Merk (97) and Chris Day (106).
Lanesville finished up Saturday with a team score of 447. Recording low scores for the Eagles were Andy Glomb (102), Daniel Senechal (110) and Zach Gurtz (110).
Leading up to the county meet, North Harrison picked up a convincing win over Jeffersonville 186-192 on Wednesday. Playing on the road at Jeffersonville Elks Golf Course, North Harrison’s Bruce shot a two-over-par 38 to card the lowest round. Also scoring for the Cougars were Boone (45), Spencer (47) and Woolston (56).
Lanesville had a rough time at Wooded View Golf Course last Wednesday, posting a team score of 219 in a three-way. Silver Creek was the top team with an impressive 156 and Providence took third with a 168. Eagle Andy Glomb shot the lowest round for Lanesville with a 49.
