North Harrison edges Corydon
With temperatures attempting to reach the 60 degree mark, it didn’t bother North Harrison from pulling out a 3-2 team win over rival Corydon Central on April 10.
The team from the north swept doubles action and No. 3 singles en route to the victory.
Corydon Central took the top two singles matches, including Bethany Shewmaker’s 6-2. 6-4 win over Wynn Shoyer. After cruising to a decisive first set win, Shewmaker had to grind her way to finishing off Shroyer in No. 1 singles action. Shewmaker opened the second set much like she did the first, running out to a 3-0 cushion.
Shroyer took the next two points, holding her serve on the last to pull within one of Shewmaker. Both held their serve on the next four points, setting up Shewmaker serving for the match with a 5-4 edge.
Shewmaker reeled off the first three points, giving her three match points. On the second, she fended off a Shroyer drop shot to take the match, giving Corydon Central a point from No. 1 singles.
In No. 2 singles Jill Hoehn defeated Maggie Cassidy 6-2, 6-2, giving Corydon Central their only other point.
Both teams, along with Lanesville and South Central are gearing toward the Harrison County Tournament on April 21. Corydon Central will host the event which begins at 8:30 a.m.
The Lady Cats will look to continue their dominance at the tournament, having won the previous 12 county titles.
