Champs prepare for Orleans
The first game of the Franklin Community 1A Regional will be a rematch of a Jan. 13 matchup at Orleans, where Lanesville edged the Bulldogs, 54-53.
At the time, the Eagles were ranked 5th and Orleans was ranked 3rd. Now the same two teams are ranked 7th and 5th, respectively.
The Jan. 13 tussle was in doubt right up to the last shot, which was a missed 14-footer by the Bulldogs’ 6-6 center, Brandon Stroud.
Orleans’ top dog is 5-11 junior guard Jacob Smith, who notched 22 points in the earlier battle. Look for Evan Johnson, Chris Shoults and Ken Steward to add additional scoring punch.
‘I think defense and rebounding will be very important,’ Lanesville coach Mikel Miller said.
Miller went on to say that he thinks the past two meetings against Orleans (which were victories for Lanesville) can work for both teams.
‘We have confidence because we beat them, but (the Bulldogs) know it was only a one point game (last time) and this will push them.’
Orleans holds a 3-2 edge against Lanesville over the past five meetings, and against common foes, Orleans is 9-1 and Lanesville is 6-3.
