Justin O. Etienne, 85, Magnet, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at the home of his daughter in Tell City.
Born Feb. 5, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of the late Oscar and Lettia Cart Etienne.
He was a graduate of Oil Township High School, a World War II Marine Corp veteran, a longtime Perry County farmer, a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold, where he served on the parish council and annual picnic committee, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939, was active in 4-H, a former Perry County Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor, and a former member of the Perry County ASCS Community Committee, Lincoln Hills RC&D Crops, Livestock and Forage Committee, Lincoln Hills RC&D Forestry Committee, Greener Pasture Committee, Perry County Extension Board, Perry County Extension Advisory Council and Perry County Farm Bureau Inc. He received the Perry County Greener Pastures Award, Perry County Soil and Water Conservationist of the Year Award, the Perry County SWDC Distinguished Service Award, and the 1992 Master Farm Conservationist Award of the Indiana Soil and Water Conservation District.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen Reed, on Aug. 1, 2006; a daughter, Mary Louise Etienne; a son, Richard Greg Etienne; two grandsons, Todd Etienne and Christopher Ory; and two brothers, Robert (Blick) and Bernard (Sox) Etienne.
Survivors include five daughters, Margie Edwards of Leavenworth, Mary Sailings of Crandall, Ruth Ory of Mt. Pleasant, Monica Richard of Magnet and Donna Briggeman of Tell City; six sons, Justin B. (J.B.) Etienne of Leopold, Phil Etienne of Derby, and Fred, Francis (Monkey), Doyle and Dennis (Herman) Etienne, all of Magnet; two sisters, Lorene Jones of Louisville and Carolyn Sue (Yvonne) Evans of Washington; three brothers, Hubert Etienne of Washington, Tony Etienne of Warsaw and Tom Etienne of Haymarket, Va.; 31 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Sunday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 7 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 19, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Huber Funeral Home in Tell City.
Prayer service: Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral: Monday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Officiant: The Rev. Sean Hoppe OSB.
Military graveside rites: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Augustine Church or Jordan, Bryce and Ilana Ory Education Fund, in care of Fifth Third Bank.
