Southridge ends Pack’s magical year

Fourth-ranked (Class 2A) Crawford County saw its season come to an end last Tuesday night as No. 5 Southridge avenged a regular season loss in the opening game of the Forest Park girls’ basketball sectional, 53-37.
It was a difference in shooting hands, with Crawford’s being ice cold and and Southridge’s glowing red-hot.
‘Tonight, we played hard, but we just couldn’t get anything to go,’ Crawford coach Eric Toney said.
Crawford (19-2) trailed in the early going, then rallied to hold a 14-13 after the first period was complete.
From there, Southridge outscored the Pack, 40-23, to avenge a 37-32 victory by Crawford back on Dec. 15.
Abby Steckler led Southridge (19-1) with 19 points, and Jill Underhill finished with 12. Courtney Souders added 10 points for the Lady Raiders, who hit 19 of 33 field goals (57 percent) and 10 of 15 free throws.
Chelsea Benham led Crawford with 13 points. The Lady Pack were just 13 of 37 (35 percent) from the field and connected on eight of 11 free throws. Crawford made just eight turnovers.
