Ruth E. Blackman
Ruth E. Blackman, 93, New Albany, died early Monday morning, Feb. 5, 2007, at Lincoln Hills Health Center in New Albany.
The former Ruth Jones, born May 15, 1913, in Chrisman, Ill., she was a community leader, a longtime member of Heartland Church of the Nazarene in Floyds Knobs, where she taught Sunday school for 65 years, a volunteer for 20-plus years for the American Red Cross, and served with and organized numerous activities and programs to help others.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick Carroll of Hammond, Ore., and Creel Carroll of Adelondo, Calif.; two daughters, Marilyn Stroud of Springfield, Ohio, and Karen (Kay) Sanders of New Albany; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation: Thursday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 9, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville in New Albany.
Funeral: Saturday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m. at Heartland Church of the Nazarene in Floyds Knobs followed by burial in SCI-Kraft Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Red Cross.
