Eugene C. Asher

Eugene C. (Gene) Asher, 79, Bloomington, died Friday morning, Dec. 22, 2006, at his home.
Born July 27, 1927, in Plainville, he grew up in English, the son of the late John and Rachel Johnson Asher.
He retired from the Indianapolis Fire Dept. with the rank of captain in 1989 after 37 years of service. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington and the American Legion Burton Woolery Post 18, and was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of World War II, where he served in the second division, 16th Pioneer Battalion in Saipan, Japan.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Claude and Charles Asher, and a sister, Laura French.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Diana G. Trampke; a son, the Rev. Joseph G. Asher of Fort Wayne; four daughters, Eugenia Marvin of Bloomington, Kathryn Kortzendorf and Elizabeth Asher, both of McAllen, Texas, and Christina Royer of Trafalgar; two sisters, Hazel Perkins and Beatrice Ward, both of Indianapolis; and five grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Dec. 27, after 9:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church.
Funeral: Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the church followed by burial at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Officiant: The Rev. Lawrence Mitchell.
Arrangements: Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Faith Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.
