The Rev. Oren D. Schaffer

The Rev. Oren D. Schaffer, 81, Lancaster, Ohio, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006.
Born in Corydon on July 12, 1925, he was the son of the late Dewitt T. and Zelma Mae Askren Schaffer.
He was a graduate of Asbury College in Willmore, Ky., and Drew University in Madison, N.J., where he earned his Master’s of Divinity degree. He served in the ministry for more than 43 years, was active in the ministerial association where he served and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Long, and a brother, Paul Schaffer.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Martha L. Boggs; three sons, John David Schaffer of Carrollton, Ohio, James Daniel Schaffer of Bitburg, Germany, and Timothy Oren Schaffer of Lancaster; two sisters, Ruth and Dorothy Schaffer, both of Corydon; two brothers, Loren Schaffer, his twin, of West Lafayette and Clifford Schaffer of Hattiesburg, Miss.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Visitation: Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Sheridan Funeral Home in Lancaster and Thursday, Oct. 12, one hour prior to the funeral at Sixth Avenue United Methodist Church in Lancaster.
Funeral: Thursday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at the church with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Military honors: Conducted by the Lancaster, Ohio, Veteran’s Burial Squad.
Officiant: The Rev. Thomas P. Rogers with the Revs. J. Robert Boggs and Loren Schaffer assisting.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Heart Association.
