J. Herbert Newkirk

J. Herbert Newkirk, 67, New Salisbury, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
A native of Milltown, born Aug. 27, 1939, he was the son of the late Henry Herbert and Esther Gregory Newkirk.
He was a peacetime Army veteran, a retired meat inspector for the Indiana State Board of Health and a master cane maker.
Survivors included his wife, the former Serena Kay Elgan; a brother, Doug Newkirk of Austin, Texas; and two sisters, Jean Baldwin of Clarksville and Almeta Zagorec of New Philadelphia, Ohio.
The body was donated to the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
All friends and relatives are invited to a pitch-in dinner Thursday, Sept. 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crandall Community Hall.
