Leonard C. Schmelz
Leonard C. Schmelz, 67, Lanesville, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
A native of Floyd County, born July 25, 1938, he was the son of the late George and Margaret Betz Schmelz.
He was an Army veteran, a retired production worker for Sunoco Can Co. in New Albany and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 1808, both in Lanesville, and Boise-Cascade Old Timers Club.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alphonse Schmelz; a sister, Mary Welch; and a grandson, Cory Schmelz.
Survivors include his wife, the former Martha Heinze; four sons, Charles Schmelz of New Albany, and Daniel, Timothy and Ted Schmelz, all of Georgetown; a sister, Anna Geswein of Lanesville; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, June 3, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.
Prayer service: Friday, June 2, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Mass: Saturday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Celebrant: Father Harold Ripperger.
