Henry C. Gettelfinger

Henry C. Gettelfinger, 86, New Albany, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.
A native of Bedford, born Feb. 28, 1920, he was the son of the late Henry F. and Elizabeth Pinaire Gettelfinger.
He worked at DuPont prior to entering the military in 1942. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific.
Following the military, he worked as a boiler operator for Jeff Depot, and was later employed with Huber & Huber and Smith Transfer. He retired from Huber Tire Co. in 1985.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus 1221 and a charter member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Gettelfinger; three brothers, Felix, Irvin and Herb Gettelfinger; and two sisters, Clara Marie Eve and Lucille Kochert.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Elizabeth Kelmel; a son, Steve K. Gettelfinger of Floyds Knobs; a daughter, Karen A. Book of Aurora; two brothers, Howard Gettelfinger of New Albany and Kenneth Gettelfinger of Portland, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 24, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Generations Funeral Home in New Albany.
Funeral Mass: Thursday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Providence Retirement Home or the Arthritis Foundation.
