Lanesville to play at Hinkle; VanHoose named Jr. All-Star
Lanesville’s boys basketball team will take part in the 2006 Super Hoops New Year Classic at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Dec. 30.
The Classic used to be a round-robin event, however the 2006 version will be an all-day event featuring two girls games and four boys games.
The Eagles, who finished 20-4 and won the Borden Sectional last month before falling to eventual state-champ Hauser at the Franklin Regional, will battle Barr-Reeve (19-5) at 4:30.
The other games that day include: Bosse (17-5) vs. Pike (20-6) at 10 a.m.; New Castle (19-5) vs. Pendleton Heights (16-8) at noon; Bosse (22-2) vs. Connersville (19-3) at 2:30; Reitz (8-13) vs. two-time defending 2A state champ Forest Park (24-3) at 6:15; and Tri-West (20-3) vs. North Montgomery (19-4) at 8 p.m.
VanHoose named to Junior All-Star team
Lanesville junior Chris VanHoose was named to the Junior All-Star Team last week.
VanHoose, who averaged 24.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and shot 61 percent from the floor, 41.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 83.2 percent from the line this past season, is part of the ‘South 6’ who will join a group of six core players in a game to be played against The Indianapolis Star Indiana All-Stars this summer.
There will be three Junior All-Star games this year at sites to be named at a later date.
VanHoose will be joined by fellow southerners Clint Hopf (Forest Park); Cordell McFarland (Bosse); Adrian Moss (Franklin); Craig Heinz (Vincennes); and Bryan Bouchie (Washington).
They’ll join the Core 6 of Eric Gordon (North Central); Scott Martin (Valparaiso); Zach Hahn (New Castle); JaJuan Johnson (Franklin Central); Matt Howard (Connersville); and E’Twaun Moore (East Chicago Central).
The North 6 consists of Eshaunte Jones (Fort Wayne North); Dairese Gary (Concord); Rob Hummel (Valparaiso); Caleb Laidig (Penn); Juston Hairston (Fort Wayne South); and Will Hubertz (Lafayette Central Catholic)
Players on the Central 6 team are Antwaun Boyd (Anderson); Tyler Bruce (Tri-West); Ben Botts (Muncie Central); Jake Kelly (Carmel); John Ashworth (Franklin Central); Nate Blank, Terre Haute North.
The coach of the Junior All-Stars will be Dave Wood (West Lafayette), with Steve Johnson (Elkhart Memorial) assisting.
