Lawrence E. (Larry) Magner, 77, Louisville, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
A native of Orleans, born July 1, 1928, he was the son of the late Lowell and Carrie Marie Morris Magner.
He was a graduate of Orleans High School and a 1955 graduate of Indiana University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business.
He was active in the Corydon community, and retired as vice president of personnel at Esmark Inc. in Chicago in 1984, was president of the board of Regents of Cedar Hill Cemetery from 1986 to 1994, president of Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation until 2004, and president of Preservation Alliance of Corydon. He was a Navy veteran and member of Rotary Club.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Howard L. Magner.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Elizabeth (Betty) Buchanan; four daughters, Margaret M. Wadlington of Louisville, Jane Magner of Massapequa Park, N.Y., Laura M. Singer of Rockford, Ill., and Amanda Magner of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; a brother, Col. (Ret.) Harold G. Magner of Shreveport, La.; three sisters, Mary Margaret Arnold of Salem, Alice Imogene Hazelbaker of Tucson, Ariz., and Joanne Hudson of Columbia, Mo., and four grandsons.
Graveside service: Saturday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Arrangements: Owen Funeral Home in Jeffersontown.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Cedar Hill Cemetery Foundation in care of Community First Bank in Corydon or to charity of choice.
