CC hits the mats at duals
Corydon Central’s wrestling team knocked off Scottsburg and Eastern, however it couldn’t take care of business against Charlestown at Saturday’s Mid-Southern Conference duals.
The Panthers defeated Scottsburg in the opener, 42-20, then knocked out Eastern, 46-14.
In the final bouts, the host Pirates came away with a 54-22 win.
‘We’ve got a long way to go,’ Corydon coach Richard Clipp said. ‘We’re short on numbers and have guys wrestling up. Terry Pulley is 188 lbs. and he was wrestling at 215 and Joey (Falardo) is wrestling at 189 and he weighs 163.
‘It’s just going to be a tough grind for us. I’m not faulting the guys. They are doing as well as they can in the situation they are given.’
In the win over Scottsburg, Jared Applegate pinned Andy Vires in the second period, Chris Falardo defeated Jesse Otto, Cory Paulley pinned David Engle, Kenny Nichols defeated Chris Casteen, 15-8, Jason Ward was a 22-7 winner over Aaron Gutowski and Kyle White pinned Stephanie Matthews. Eric Anderson stuck James Armstrong as well.
Later, Anderson had a pin against a Salem wrestler in just 11 seconds.
Brett Eads had a 10-0 win over Eastern’s Ryan Hutchinson, and defeated Charlestown’s 112-lb. grappler, 11-0.
White and Ward won their matches against Charelestown as well.
