Spitfires come home fifth

The Southern Indiana Spitfires 14-under girls fast pitch softball team competed in the A.S.A. East ‘B’ nationals at Lost Mountain Softball Complex in Marietta, Georgia, last week.
This was the largest East ‘B’ tournament ever held and hosted 31 teams.
The Spitfires won their first three games of the event, starting off with a 10-2 victory against Pennsylvania, behind strong pitching and solid defense, with a very potent offense backing up the defense. That was followed by a win over Georgia, 7-5, when the bats came to life during the middle of the game. The Spitfires then outdid Michigan, 3-2, with outstanding defense and much-needed clutch hitting in the bottom of the seventh inning
The Spitfires went into Friday evening undefeated before falling to the eventual co-champion, Non-Stop of Arkansas, 9-1.
The Spitfires were eliminated Saturday afternoon by the Lady Bears from Ohio, being defeated 8-3.
The team was presented with a 5th place team trophy and tournament banner.
This is the Spitfires second year of travel-play with all local players from North Harrison (9), Corydon (2) and Pekin, Ind.
The Southern Indiana Spitfires players include; Brandi Auberry, Brooke Auberry, Jordan Behagg, Kayla Crawford, Ashley Eveslage, Andrea Hornung, Jessica Kaufman, Kayla Lambert, Rachel Powers, Mary Robertson, Shelby Short, and Nikki Trowbridge.
