County teams gear up for regional play

A pair of super softball teams from Corydon and North Harrison will be taking part in the 14-under Babe Ruth Ohio Valley Regional Tournament at Robinson Park in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin this week.
The Corydon All-Stars and North Harrison All-Stars will try to strut their stuff against some of the region’s finest teams. Clubs from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin are taking part in the nine-team, double-elimination event, which is held July 27-31.
Corydon’s first game is at 4 p.m. on Thursday. North Harrison also plays on Thursday, although the start was not available at press time.
In last week’s state tournament at the Friends of Harrison County Youth fields at Gov. Frank O’Bannon Park, Corydon defeated South Harrison, Henryville and North Harrison en route to a date against powerful Rushville. Corydon lost, 4-3, to place third in the tourney. North Harrison was fourth.
Because both of the top two finishing teams ‘ Rushville and Batesville ‘ dropped out of the tournament, the two Harrison County squads were extended invitations to the regional in Wisconsin.
Team members for North Harrison’s All-stars are Micaela Napper, Kayla McClure, Tabitha Hurst, Barbara Hedgespeth, Ashley Huddleston, Mariah Uhl, Shae C. Smith, Courtney Crone, Krista Sutherland and Jamie Hobbs. The team’s manager is Mike Napper and coaches are Chris Uhl and Steve Sutherland.
Listed on last week’s roster for Corydon’s All-stars (above) were Megan Fessel, Hayley Dunaway, Savannah Cesar, Shelby Bickel, Kayla Holton, Jenna Keinsley, Jennifer McCarty, Melaine Windell, Brittany Flener, Laura Yates, Sarah Allen and Catyln Byrd.
Coaches are Roger Fessel and Brian Kingsley.
