Walter R. Reed

Walter R. Reed, 73, New Salisbury, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at his home.
He was the son of the late Robert B. and Lysbeth Rottgering Reed.
A graduate of Murray State University, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War and worked for American States Insurance as a claims manager, retiring in 1994. He then began farming and raising Salers cattle. He was a life member of Bonnie Sloan American Legion Post and was chaplain for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 270 Lodge for 17 years. He was a Duke of Paducah and a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, the former Harriett Smith; a son, Henry R. Reed of Overland Park, Kan., and two grandchildren.
Funeral: Monday, May 30, at Roth Funeral Chapel with burial in Maple Lawn Cemetery, both in Paducah, Ky.
Elks memorial service: Saturday, May 28, at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Hospice of Southern Indiana or the Elks Club Clothe a Child Program.
