Ray selected as new leader of the ‘Pack
Mike Ray was hired as the new head coach of the Crawford County boys basketball team last night in a regular session of the school board trustees.
The board’s vote was unanimous, 7-0.
Ray previously was an assistant mens coach at Vincennes University, where he served 16 years on the Trailblazers’ staff.
He is a native of Lawrenceville, Ill., and a 1968 graduate of Lawrenceville High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University in 1972 and a master’s degree in education administration from Louisiana Baptist University in Shreveport.
Ray and his wife, Judy, have three sons and one daughter, and five grandchildren.
Ray replaces longtime coach Otis Broughton after compiling a record of 167-144, along with three sectional championships and four Patoka Lake Athletic Conference titles.
The Wolfpack also made a Sweet 16 appearance in 1995 in the former one-class tournament.
Crawford County, which had a record of 9-12 last season with only one senior, returns a majority of its scoring, including it’s top scorer, senior Christopher Broughton (15.3 ppg.).
