Freddie Newsome

Freddie Newsome, 52, Bedford, formerly of Corydon, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at his home after a lengthy illness.
A native of Pikeville, Ky., born Oct. 11, 1952, he was the son of Andrew Newsome and the late Helen Newsome.
Survivors besides his father include his wife of 13 years, the former Kelly Ann Morin; children, Benjamin Alexander and Rachael Michaela Newsome, both at home, and Aaron Newsome of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepson, Nathaniel Lee Guernsey; six sisters, Loretta Martin and Lucille Burke, both of Virgie, Ky., Roberta Blackburn and Karen Hall, both of Pikeville, Kathy Newsome of Munford, Tenn., and Judy Keene of Shelbiana, Ky., and a stepgranddaughter.
He was a graduate of Virgie High School and attended Morehead State University, where he earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration, and he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He studied accounting at Pikeville College before becoming a CPA in 1982. He went to Liberty Baptist University and Theological Seminary, where he obtained a master’s in religious education and was an assistant professor of business.
He was Phi Beta Lambda’s Mr. Business Administration in Kentucky in 1973 and placed third in U.S. competition. He taught business and accounting at Pikeville College, Liberty University, Prestonburg Community College, Virginia State University, Milligan College, Bellarmine College, Webster University and the University of Louisville.
He was a controller for Pikeville College, a chief financial officer for Discount Labels in New Albany, and later opened his own construction and rental property business.
He also served as a Sunday school superintendent at Dive Christian Church in Bedford.
Visitation: Thursday, May 12, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Lucas & Hall Funeral Home in Pikeville.
First funeral will be Wednesday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Dive Christian Church.
Officiant: The Rev. Johnny Johnson.
Second funeral: Friday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Newsome Cemetery in Penny, Ky.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Alex and Rachel Newsome Trust Fund.
