Ward a regional champ at 152
Corydon Central’s Jason Ward won the 152-lb. weight class at Saturday’s Jeffersonville Regional and will advance to semi-state action this Saturday morning at Roberts Stadium in Evansville.
Ward shut out North Knox’s James Wise, 5-0, to move on in the individual tournament.
The top three finishers at the regional level move on to semi-state competition, so while they were unable to come home with the top prize, a couple of other Panthers will take part at Evansville.
At 135, Floyd Central’s Cooper Samuels posted a 10-3 decision against Chris Paulley of Corydon in the championship match.
Paulley’s brother, Cory, earned a third place finish in the 140-lb. division as he defeated Darrell LaFountain.
Casey Tuchscherer, who sees action in the heavyweight class, defeated Matt Hollbrook of North Knox in the third-place match.
In the overall team standings, Southridge won with a total of 145 points, followed by Floyd Central with 138.
New Albany posted 65 points, edging out the Panthers for the second straight week.
