South rattles Lady Lions
Host South Central had three players reach double figures last Tuesday night as it throttled Salem, 75-39.
The Lady Rebels’ only senior, Samantha Troutman, torched the Lady Lions for 21 points as junior Megan Zumar and freshman Brittany Schoen added 17 points apiece.
South (16-6) jumped out to a 23-9 lead in the first period and held a 42-23 advantage at the half.
‘Knowing what they had, they had a lot of things that usually give us problems. I was surprised to get out on them like that,’ South coach Randall Schoen said. ‘I think we are as playing as well as can be expected right now. The girls are playing as hard as they can play and it makes things easy for me.’
South was 47 percent on field goals for the game and had 21 assists versus only six turnovers.
‘Usually it seems like it’s close to reversed. It seems like our assists and turnovers we’ve been breaking even,’ Schoen said.
Sarah Pease scored eight and Jenna Kingsley had six for the winners, while Shaylee Brown put in 12 points for the Lady Lions.
Heading into sectional play this evening at Borden, South has won 10 games in a row.
The Lady Rebels take on Henryville in a Dec. 11 rematch, when South won by 36 points.
The two clubs square off at 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on AM-1550, WOCC.
