Ward, Paulley claim titles at Jeffersonville Sectional

Corydon Central put 10 wrestlers into the finals of Saturday’s Jeffersonville Sectional and scored a pair of champions as well.
Junior Jason Ward, who wrestles at 152-lbs., and sophomore Cory Paulley, who tips in at 140, were crowned sectional winners of their respective weight classes to lead a strong day for the Panthers.
Floyd Central won the event going away, scoring a total of 306 points.
Corydon Central was poised to place second in the team standings and advance to the team regional.
A disqualification on 103-pounder Brett Eads after he lost in the final round against Kirk Moore of New Albany, however, dashed those hopes.
Eads fell to Moore, 9-5, then threw his headgear in frustration after the loss.
Eads’ points were stripped from the Panthers’ overall score, allowing New Albany to move up one spot to second place (211 pts.).
Corydon wound up third with 194 points.
The top four finishers in each weight class will return to William S. Johnson Arena on Saturday to compete in the Jeffersonville Regional.
Ward’s victory came against Andrew Logsdon of Jeffersonville, 3-1, while Paulley stuck Darrel LaFountain just before the buzzer in the first period.
At 112, Jared Applegate was defeated by Floyd’s Matt Neeld, 7-4, to finish in fourth place.
Cooper Samuels of Floyd Central had just one second of ‘blood time’ left and narrowly defeated Chris Paulley, 10-5, in the final of 135.
Corydon’s Kyle White made it to the championship in the 160-lb. division, however he was trimmed by Highlander Trevor Griffin, 9-5.
In a third-place bout at 171, Louis Snider of Salem pinned Joey Falardo in the opening period.
David Terhune picked up a third-place spot at 189 as he scored a 9-4 win over Jeff’s Thomas Bonner.
David Camp was barely defeated by David Sandlin in the final at 215, 3-1, while at Heavyweight, Daniel Gillespie of Charlestown was able to pin Casey Tuchscherer in 1:41.
Regional action is underway at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
