Victories elude CC, Lanesville
Both Corydon Central and Lanesville were stymied over the weekend in boys varsity cage action.
The Panthers dropped their third and fourth decisions in a row ‘ to Scottsburg and Madison, respectively ‘ while Lanesville was trimmed by Perry Central.
Corydon’s Mid-Southern Conference tilt against visiting Scottsburg (4-2) on Friday saw the Panthers (1-4) keep the game relatively close in the first period.
Leading 17-11 after one frame, the Warriors outscored the hosts by 15 points in the second stanza to effectively put the struggling Panthers at bay.
Jared Coomer and Jake White pounded out 17 points apiece and Jordan Basham tacked on 11.
Corydon Central was led by the 12 points of senior forward Eric Haub and the eight by Shaun Walker. Ryan Herndon and Matt Key chipped in seven points apiece.
One night later in Madison, the host Cubs took care of business early and led at the end of the first period, 20-6.
Neither club got much going offensively in the second quarter, but Corydon was able to trim five points off Madison’s lead heading into the final frame.
The Panthers got 17 points and five triples from Jared Ashton and nine points from Josh Stepro, but it wasn’t enough as Corydon lost its fourth game of the young season.
Adam Davis led the hosts with 19 points.
Corydon’s next contest comes Dec. 28 at Jeffersonville.
Lanesville traveled to Leopold for a date against Perry Central and nearly pulled off the upset Friday night.
Trailing 21-11 at the intermission, the Eagles (3-5) rallied to pull within three heading into the final eight minutes.
The undefeated Commodores (5-0), who are ranked 17th in the Class 2A poll, held off the gritty Eagles, however to post a 49-42 victory.
Dave Bachmann put in 14 points and Michael Burres added 13 for Lanesville. Chris VanHoose scored nine as well.
For the winners, Grant Lamar put in 14 points and added eight rebounds.
