John T. Shireman Sr.
John Thomas Shireman Sr., 57, Alma, Ga., died suddenly Friday evening, Dec. 10, 2004, in Hazelhurst, Ga.
A native of Corydon, born June 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Stoy Lancing and Golda Groft Shireman.
He retired from CSX Railroad after 30 years and was an employee of Progress Railroad. He was a Catholic and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He received the Vietnam Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elaine Elliott; a son, John Thomas Shireman Jr. of Jeffersonville; two daughters, Kimberly Taft of Broxton, Ga., and Melissa Garrett of Louisville; two stepsons, Larry McCarthy of Albany, Ga., and Adam Lairsey of Waycross; a stepdaughter, Tara Carter of Blackshear, Ga.; two brothers, Bob Shireman of Sellersburg and David Shireman of Indianapolis; a sister, Sheila Harris of Indianapolis, and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral: Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Crosby Funeral Home in Alma with burial in Old Pine Grove Cemetery.
Officiant: The Rev. Lowell Lee.
Pallbearers: George Dixon, Larry Evans, Phillip Robson, Danny Howell, John White and Mike Parry.
