Byrne second at semi-state; others fall short

In weather fit for a duck, North Harrison senior Ryan Byrne was runner-up to Max Gustaitis of Bloomington North in Saturday’s Bloomington North Semi-state at the Indiana University cross country course.
Gustaitis won in 16:13 with Byrne 13 seconds back in 16:26.
Byrne is seeded as one of the top individual runners not advancing with a team in Saturday’s state final in Terre Haute and will line up in Lane 1.
In the girls race, South Central’s Sarah Pease was fighting a case of the flu and wound up 22nd overall. Eastern’s Angie Sells failed to make the cut for the state meet as well, crossing the line in 17th.
Crawford County’s girls team finished 18th out of 20 teams in Bloomington.
Silver Creek won the overall girls title by a wide margin over Bloomington South, 85-169.
This Saturday’s state final at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute begins with the girls race at 2 p.m. (fast time), followed by the boys race at 2:45. The cost for admission is $5.
