Knofel L. Pirtle

Knofel L. Pirtle, 87, Floyds Knobs, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
He retired from Ford Motor Co., after 33 years, and was an Army veteran of World War II, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hobart Beach Post 1693 in New Albany, and a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. He also volunteered at several nursing homes by playing music for the residents.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Rose Didelot Pirtle; 10 children, John and Tony Knofel, both of Floyds Knobs, Joe Knofel of Lanesville, Margaret Hersey of Cincinnati, Katie Wells and Kathleen Fischer, both of Greenville, Mary Arntz of New Albany, Jan Birdwell of Lanesville, and Ann Paris and Sheila Missi, both of Georgetown; a brother, Hazel Pirtle of New Albany; a sister, Kathryn Zollman of Ramsey; 19 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass: Saturday, March 27, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
