Walter P. Layman, 85, New Salisbury, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
A native of Wirt County, W. Va., born June 13, 1918, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Blanche Hawkins Layman.
He was a retired mechanic and auto body repairman, an Army veteran of World War II, and received a bronze star.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, the former Letty Ruth Williams; a son, John Layman of New Salisbury; a daughter, Jeanne Vest of Georgetown; a brother, Harold Layman of Orman Beach, Fla.; a sister, Anna Maze of Parkersburg, W. Va., and two grandchildren.
Funeral: Saturday, March 20, at Dillman-Green Funeral Home in Marengo with burial in Union Chapel Cemetery in Milltown.
Officiant: The Rev. August Huber.
Pallbearers: John Layman, Leonard Vest, Andy Francis, and Dean, James and Terry Williams.
Honorary pallbearers: Steven and Justin Vest.
