Voter registration deadline coming fast

The deadline to register to vote in this year’s primary election is less than two weeks away. Harrison County Circuit Clerk Carole Gaither said persons wishing to vote in the May 4 Primary must register by April 5.
They can go to the clerk’s office, on the second floor of the Harrison County Court House, or submit an Indiana Voter Registration Application form. (Forms are available online at
Gaither asked that persons coming to her office bring their driver’s license as identification. In cases where someone doesn’t have a driver’s license, the last four digits of their Social Security number will do, she said.
Voters who know they won’t be in their home county on election day can request an absentee ballot.
They can vote by mail, in the clerk’s office, or have the traveling election board come to their residence, Gaither said.
The first day for absentee voting is April 5. Voting can be done in the clerk’s office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., except for April 9, when the courthouse will be closed for Good Friday. Gaither said the clerk’s office will also be open two Saturdays ‘ April 24 and May 1 ‘ from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for absentee voting.
There will be a public testing of the voting machine on April 7 at 2 p.m., Gaither said.
